The German Hessians and French Involvement
No one saw the American Revolution coming but the British. The British felt like their were outnumbered at the Halifax, Nova Scotia.
King George hired soldiers from Germany called Hessians. The British paid the Prince of Hesse $500,000 a year plus $35 for each Hessian killed and $12 for each wounded. Unfortunately the money was not given to the soldiers. It was spent to help Germany's economy and to build elaborate palaces.
Known as "Hessians" because of their large numbers. Also, their General Knypyhausen was commander of the entire German force which contributed to the common reference to "Hessian Soldiers". The British hired Washington to help fight the war against the French because he had experience with the French&Indian War. German and British were working together and French and the colonies were working together. They felt like the Hessians had no business to fight in any war that didn't contain them.
This video explains how the British and the Americans planned a surprise attack on the French. Washington was a big help to this war between the German Hessians and the British. This video also shows how the Hessians Commander surrender to Washington at The Battle of Trenton.
